I FEEL STUCK
Few experiences are as frustrating as feeling stuck. Not because nothing is happening.
But because something inside us knows that movement is possible.
We can sense it. We can imagine it. Sometimes we can even see exactly where we want to go.
And yet, somehow, we remain where we are.
Days pass. Months pass. Sometimes years. The same thoughts. The same plans.
The same promises that tomorrow will be different.
It is tempting to believe that being stuck means we are lazy, unmotivated, or lacking discipline.
Yet life is often more complicated than that. A bird does not remain in an open cage because
it enjoys captivity. It remains because it has learned to fear what lies beyond the door.
In much the same way, people rarely stay stuck because they truly want to.
More often, one part of them wishes to move forward while another part is trying to keep them safe.
One part longs for change. Another fears what change might require.
One part dreams of freedom. Another fears uncertainty.
One part sees possibility. Another remembers disappointment.
And so an invisible conflict begins. We call it procrastination.
Indecision. Lack of confidence.
But beneath the surface, there is often a deeper conversation taking place.
A conversation between the person we are becoming and the person we have been.
The difficulty is that we tend to focus only on the destination.
We ask:
“How do I move forward. What is my next step?”
Perhaps a different question is needed.
“What is asking me to stay? What do have to leave behind if decide to move forward?”
What belief? What fear? What loyalty to the past? What story about yourself has become so familiar
that letting go of it feels like losing a part of your identity?
Sometimes the obstacle is not standing in front of us. Sometimes we are carrying it within us.
Being stuck is not always the absence of movement. Sometimes it is the presence of resistance.
And resistance often appears where something important is waiting on the other side.
Perhaps this moment is not asking you to force your way forward. Perhaps it is asking you
to become curious. To listen. To understand what remains unresolved beneath the surface.
Because once the hidden conflict is seen clearly, the path often begins to reveal itself.
Not all at once. Not dramatically. But enough for the next step to appear.
And sometimes, that single step is all that is needed to remind us that we were never truly trapped.
Only standing at a threshold we had not yet learned how to cross.
